Chaplain to the High Sheriff

Revd Noreen Russell

The High Sheriff has appointed The Rev Noreen Russell to serve as her Chaplain for 2018-19.

Noreen was born in Stone, Staffordshire and educated at Alleyne’s Grammar School. She studied French at the University of Manchester (BA Hons) followed by a PGCE and BD (external) at the University of London. She taught French and RE in the Birmingham and Stoke-on-Trent areas, plus English to Immigrants in Smethwick.

Noreen is married to John, with a son and a daughter and two grandchildren.

She joined the Church of England when she and John returned to Staffordshire, becoming first a licensed lay-reader, then an ordained deacon. In 1994, she was one of the first female cohort to be ordained priest. She worked in the parishes of St. Peter’s, Forsbrook and St. Margaret’s, Draycott-in-the-Moors until retirement.

Noreen is a Minister at St. Luke’s, Tittensor where she teaches and leads two Bible study and prayer groups and keeps a weather eye on the Tittensor pastoral care group and Foodbank donations.

Her interests include family, reading, puzzles, bird-watching and village activities in Barlaston.

Noreen was privileged to be Mayoress of Stafford in 2003-04.
