As part of the Battle of Britain commemorations being held in the county, I was pleased to attend three very different events that highlighted the importance of that critical conflict.
On Sunday 12th September I attended a service of commemoration held by TSW (Tactical Supply Wing, RAF) in The Collegiate Church of St Mary in Stafford. This was followed by a Battle of Britain Parade with serving TSW personel through the centre of Stafford.
Wg Cdr Jon Smith, Tactical Supply Wing, then kindly invited my wife and I to attend their The Battle of Britain Dinner at RAF Stafford on Thursday 16th September which was a splendid occasion complete with a Spitfire flypast.
On Wednesday 5th September I was fortunate to be part of the unveiling of the newly refurbished Spitfire RW388 at the Hanley Museum, Stoke-on-Trent. The Lord Mayor of Stoke, Dr. Chandra Kanneganti, cut the ribbon to open the new Spitfire Gallery housing the magnificent aeroplane in memory of Reginald J. Mitchell, the Staffordshire born designer of the Spitfire, and in the presence of the current generation of the Mitchell family.
