I will be primarily supporting the Community Foundation for Staffordshire www.staffsfoundation.org.uk through my Shrieval year.
The Community Foundation for Staffordshire have worked closely with the office of the High Sheriff for many years, and this has led to the creation of the High Sheriff Fund which awards small grants to Staffordshire based community organisations that are making a significant contribution to the wellbeing of the county.
I am also hoping to support the Transforming the Trent Valley landscape partnership scheme www.thetrentvalley.org.uk by walking, and on occasion paddling and cycling, the Staffordshire length of the proposed new Trent Valley Way footpath which will follow the Trent from the source at Biddulph Moor to Burton, past Staffordshire Wildlife Trust’s Wolseley Bridge HQ and the National Memorial Arboretum.

I am hoping to promote a wider appreciation of Staffordshire’s wetlands, home to our ducks, grass snakes and dragonflies, and support some of the wonderful wetland sites now being re-created along the River Trent, including the SUNRISE project in Stoke, the Doxey Marshes at Stafford, the Riverside Park at Rugeley Power Station, Tucklesholme Nature Reserve and the Burton Washlands.
In conjunction with Staffordshire Wildlife Trust, I will be planning dates to complete different sections as I follow the River Trent through Staffordshire. Following government guidelines, and lockdown rules permitting, I hope that some of you will join me as I connect with nature and walk (or cycle) for wellbeing. Please watch here for updates over the coming months.
