Uttoxeter Cares is a partnership between local charities St Giles Hospice, Katharine House Hospice and the Hermitage Charitable Trust. It is a community centre with the sole aim of supporting the health, wellbeing and resilience of the people of Uttoxeter and its surrounding villages, as well as ensuring support and care are available in the community to enable people, as they get older, to live well locally.
I have been impressed with the work of Uttoxeter Cares for a while, so jumped at the chance to meet team leader, Emma Hodges, and learn more about the initiative. The small, but committed and dedicated team, organise exercise classes and knitting groups, as well as support sessions for people who have lost loved ones or are struggling with their mental health. They also provide a signposting service for anyone who is looking for help but is not too sure which way to turn.
Despite its size, this organisation is truly making a difference to the lives of people who live within the Uttoxeter community. It was a privilege to meet the team and see their work first-hand, and I look forward to supporting them in any way I can.
