On Wednesday 16th March my wife and I, together with my Chaplain Rev’d Gerald Gardiner were shown around HMYOI Werrington.
The challenges they face with 16-18 year old offenders are daunting, and the Covid pandemic has compounded the issues. It was so interesting to meet Anglican Chaplain Vanda Perret and see something of her building projects to improve the physical spaces where she and her multi-faith Chaplaincy Team operate. In that harsh world of concrete and bars, the Chaplaincy are seeking to offer listening ears and safe spaces for these sometimes angry, often aggressive, young men to come to terms with the situation they find themselves in.
